10/12/10

Well, today was less interesting than I thought it was going to be. Maybe because I was tired, it was hard for me to keep my eyes open. There was one speaker who was very good and inspirational. He had a social gospel message that included women and Dalits, among others. He showed the video that's on the Dalit Solidarity Network website about being a Dalit. The best part of the day was when we broke up into “interest groups” to discuss issues. I got into what turned out to be the radical feminist group and we discussed how breaking up into groups was discriminatory.

We also met James Massey, who turns out to be jolly and twinkly, so I'm looking forward to talking to him about Dalit issues. He seems very nice. He's such an eminent theologian -- I'm excited that he's being so hospitable to us.

We had another fine dinner at the hotel restaurant tonight and Jimmy was able to come along as well. Jill ate at the next table, not exactly with us, and we had a nice conversation. Afterwards, Jimmy went back to his hotel and we came upstairs and watched Kaun Banega Crorepati (Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) with Amitabh Bachchan as host. It was okay – he does a lot of talking in between, so they only did 3 questions in about 20 min.
